I OWE DENIS £5

Last night was the second Ballynafeigh Rapid play. Again it was another well run and enjoyable event. Thx very much to the Ballynafeigh club and tournament controller for last night`s entertainment.


I put on the wrong coat going out and found I had no money for the entrance fee when reaching the venue. Denis kindly loaned me £5, I have put it on public record to make sure I pay it back. 


I think Michael won the tournament outright, I am not sure of all the final standings as I had to leave before they were finalized. Congratulations to all prizewinners.

E2E4 GATWICK TOURNAMENT

Here is a video clip of the recent E2E4 tournment which took place at the Gatwick Plaza hotel.

The event was very well organised, very enjoyable and the hotel is excellent. I had three blacks in this tournament and had to face the Grand Prix Attack in every one!


One rule difficult to get used to is having to record every move even in the last 5 minutes!

A MIRACLE?

It is white to move.

This really surprised me when I come across it. It seems like an optical illusion, there seems to be no chance of  the white king catching the black pawn on h5 to achieve a draw.

However it can be done, the explanation is given in Mark Dvoretsky`s Endgame Manual in DVD format.   The game illustration describes it as a miracle! 


Most of the stuff I have come across in the DVD I was completely unaware of, I have recently purchased this at the e2e4 Gatwick tournament.

LAST NIGHT`S RAPID PLAY

A very well organised and enjoyable rapid play took place at Ballynafeigh chess club last night.
As far as I know the joint winners were Des Moreland and Damien Lavery.
