FRONT PAGE STORY
A chess story has made the front page of the Limerick Chronicle. Unfortunately it is about suspected "chess cheating."
It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

LAST GAME OF THE SEASON
Fisherwick 3 BSCC 2
And so the curtain comes down on the UCU 2012/13 season with a win for Fisherwick against their former sister club Malone, now BSCC.
For the second match in a row, Fisherwick stumble over the winning line against an understrength BSCC,having previously had a scare v Ballynafeigh 2 weeks ago. Martin Kelly remains undefeated against Fisherwick drawing again for the 3rd time.
John Masterson blunders a whole rook when he looked like winning his game and resigns immediately, Gavin Fong, the exchange up, gambles by giving the exchange back again in an attempt to push his passed pawn but miscalculates and cedes the draw.
The umbrella man, Ian Woodfield has a comfortable win and so to the final game on 1,with the match tied at 2-2 John Cairns isn't having it easy but finally crashes thru his opponents stubborn resistance by sac,ing a rook for a troublesome bishop thus securing the win and completing an undefeated season for Fisherwicks Invincibles.

Tied at 2-2, with just Rays game to finish,,Ray has a small material advantage, but 'blunders' a piece, then engineers a lovely swindle to turn the tables again, delivering a crushing win with less than 2 minutes on both clocks
Here is the first video clip showing the clocks being started before the Groomsport team arrived.

THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO A BEGGING LETTER
The following report is in response to a begging email I received earlier in the week. It relates to the recent E2E4 tournament in Dublin.
...........................................................................................................................................
THE "JOYCE"OF SPRING
At Easter in Dublin, Martin Kelly(Belfast South) followed up his 4/6 in the Gonzaga Under-1800s with 5/6 in the e2e4 Under-1750 Major.
He was unbeaten in the 9 round event. After a first round travelling bye, Kelly was full of the "joyce"of spring after a difficult draw with
Stephen Joyce. After a win and draw in the next two rounds,he was able to "waltz"past Cathal Walsh in Round Five in the game below:
In Round Six on Board Two,joint leader Ronan Murphy was "groanin' " after losing to Kelly in a swashbuckling, sacrificial game, not for the fainthearted.
The final round saw Kelly on Board One face last year's winner,Bulgarian Atanis Kouthev, nicknamed "Attack"or "Attila the Hun",who was a half point clear and needed only a draw to win.

Kelly remembered losing on Board Two in the last round at Gonzaga but knew a win this time would get him a first prize of 400 Euros. Instead,he chickened out with a Grandmaster draw to finish second.

ANOTHER CHESS BLOG AND REPORT ON MONDAY`S TOURNAMENT
Here is a link to David McCallister`s chess blog. It has a detailed report of Monday`s Rapid play tournament.
David also reveals the story about George Clooney and Jessica Alba was an "April Fool" hoax.
I did suspect quite a few MSM people were fooled, but they will never admit it. The information on the Ballynafeigh site seems to confirm this, if you can believe all it says??
Guess what? George Clooney has made it abundantly clear he will be nowhere near N.Ireland in August, he will be in Canada instead.

UCU RAPIDPLAY RESULTS
Yesterday`s Rapid play results are now available on the UCU website. The winner was my Fisherwick team mate John Masterson.
The runner up was my fellow Carl Frampton fan, Danny Mallaghan. Looks like there was a good turn out of 31 competitors for the event.
Here is the link to the UCU site.

SBCC UPDATE
Neil Green has just circulated this email for SBCC members and supporters.
..................................................................................................................................
..................................................................................................................................
Hi Everyone
Wishing
you a happy Easter and my congratulations to the inaugural Club
Tournament winners : Sam Flanagan ,Cathal Murphy and Philip Morrison on
their performance. Also thanks to all those players ( 21 in total) who
participated in the event and to Drew Ferguson from the Ulster Chess
Union who kept the results updated on-line.
As
a number of players
are interested in continuing the spirit of the event during April (and
while the Club is in contention for the Silver Kings Trophy) the Club
will open at 7.30pm on Monday nights from 8 − 29 April for anyone
wishing to play.
As
April will end Belfast South Chess Club's calendar for 2012-2013 I
would especially like to thank Martin Kelly for organising the Club's
team and David Ruben for managing our finances.
I would also like to
propose a meeting for members and supporters on Tuesday 30 April at 8pm in the Wellington Park Hotel. This will give an opportunity to hear how the the Club has progressed and help shape its future development.
If you are unable to attend but would like your views included please let me know by email.
Regards
Neil Green
